Hannah Brown

Hannah is an experienced commercial litigator with extensive experience in complex matters before the Federal and State Supreme Courts. She is a qualified solicitor in New South Wales, New Zealand and England and Wales.

She has diverse, broad-ranging experience across multiple areas of law, industries and jurisdictions. She has represented clients in financial services and enforcement, contract, consumer law, fraud, property and professional negligence disputes.

She has acted for large financial institutions and ASX listed companies as well as for individual clients, in particular, in class actions. 

Regarding her class action expertise, notable class actions Hannah has been involved in (at prior firms or whilst a principal of Brown Ward King) include the following.

Swann Insurance

Acting for plaintiffs in Federal Court Class Action proceedings against subsidiaries of Insurance Australia Group (Swann Insurance and Insurance Australia Limited) relating to the sale of add-on car insurance products.  The matter settled for an amount of $138 million.

Advanta Seeds

Representing a group of farmers in a class action against Advanta Seeds regarding claims of negligence and misleading and deceptive conduct arising out of the sale and distribution of contaminated sorghum seed.  The case was the first class action to be commenced in the Supreme Court of Queensland.

Dixon Advisory

Representing plaintiffs in a class action in the Federal Court of Australia against Dixon Advisory and Superannuation Services Ltd (DASS) (and others) on behalf of retail clients of DASS who, upon DASS’ advice, invested in a fund known as “the US Masters Residential Property Fund”, thereby suffering substantial losses.  This matter was conducted by Brown Ward King on a “co-counsel” basis with another Australian law firm.

Whilst Damian commenced his career as a litigation and dispute resolution lawyer, he now provides a full range of services, advice and perspectives to clients in addressing commercial issues or problems that arise in business life. Damian places an emphasis on assisting in finding the prompt, efficient and effective solutions intended to enhance and expand the profitability of his clients’ businesses. Damian is the author of the Contract Negotiation Handbook (John Wiley-1997).

Robin King

Robin is a corporate/commercial lawyer with over 20 years’ experience of practice in both the United Kingdom and Australia.

Robin also advises on negotiation and drafting of commercial agreements, corporate regulatory matters and resolution of commercial disputes.
